Prologue:

Hello and welcome to the continuation of my flight to MIA.

I arrived at IAH with about 1:30 hr layover. I immediately headed to the AMEX Centurion and KL Crown lounges. Unfortunately at the KL lounge I was turned away due to capacity and was referred to the AF lounge nearby.

The flight to MIA was full and to make matters worse there was a child behind who kicked the seat from time to time. Thankfully the flight was short.

Access to the AMEX is hidden through a pair of elevators by the Duty Free shop.

Upon entering I was warmly greeted by a nice agent. Southern Texans hospitality at its best.

The lounge was full. I was lucky to find a single table with a chair.

Decent lunch with agua de Jamaica (Hibicus flower drink) that has an acidic taste. A staple Mexican drink.

WC's were clean and had L'Occitane toiletries.

AF lounges outside of France tend to be very inconsistent. Some like JFK and IAD get praises and then you have this one that is rather disappointing.

Looked promising but appearances can be deceiving.

The lounge was crowded and divided into smaller sections. Catering was not very good and lacked variety.

Some salads soup and hummus with pita. The rest is packaged stuff from what I saw.

Summary:

The AMEX lounge in IAH was full but the design is modern and the catering is good. I originally planned to visit the KL lounge but was referred to the AF one due to capacity issues.

The AF lounge was disappointing. It was too crowded with limited catering of fresh items. The design looked like a maze with the lounge divided into different sections. I think AF lounges abroad tend to suffer from inconsistencies with some better than others.

This was a regular UA flight with standard beverage service. FA's were efficient and thankfully the flight was not too long.
