Prologue:

Hello and welcome to this exciting review of a new lounge.

The opening of the new AS Lounge at SFO was a highly anticipated event that many flyers from the Bay Area were looking forward to when AS purchased home carrier VX. At the time AS was in the works to design a lounge that was worthy of carrying its name with expected Northwestern elements incorporated similar to their SEA hub lounge in the N gates.

Unfortunately covid arrived and put a stop to those plans. For a time there was absolutely no updates about the progress of this new lounge and many AS flyers gave up on it. Then things started to pick up as we moved through 2021 and by the summer there was a rumor of the lounge opening later in the year.

Finally Bay Area travelers welcomed the news of this lounge that opened on Aug. 31 with some changes made to its original design. The lounge is AS's second largest after SEA at just under 10,000 sq feet (approx. 929.03 sq meters).

The AS lounge occupies the space of the old AA lounge when they were in T2 at SFO.

Summary:

The AS Lounge in SFO is a solid lounge with decent catering and friendly staff. Many people felt that it was about time that there was a lounge available for AS flyers at a hub.

The interior is spacious and comfortable but some areas specially the right side dining room felt too open to me. Personally I prefer more dividers and personal spaces. Also the arrangement of the chair in the rotunda is a bit odd.

I appreciate that there was a buffet available and people were able to serve themselves with real plates, glasses and metal utensils just like before pre-covid times. Hand sanitizers were placed at the end of the buffet table and were very accessible.

Catering was fine and there was no packaged food on sight like other lounges. Everything was fresh.

Some of the staff were very friendly asking how everything was and checking upon guests that things were OK.
