Prologue:
My dear friends, I wish you all the best for 2022 with of course a lot of travels.About a year ago along with Capoune and Sam, we looked for a destination where we'll be spending most of the day in the First Class Lounge.
With Covid messing up our lives and the drastic flight destinations, we were left with one destination. JNB.
Will we get the ultimate experience ? For Sam it will also be his first First.
Bonjour à tous les amis, je vous souhaite une magnifique année 2022.
Il y a un an avec Capoune et Sam on recherche une destination pour voyager en Première tout en passant le plus de temps au salon.
Avec le Covid et la réduction des vols, le choix est unique. C'est JNB.
Embarquement dans le luxe ultime ?
We arrive quite early in the lounge since we were connecting from a previous flight.
On arrive très tôt au salon étant en correspondance.
I can't deny it's a treat to be here. The bar is sleek.
C'est un régal de revenir dans ce lieu d'exception. Le bar est particulier souvent vide. C'est plutôt une vitrine.
While breakfast menus were handed out we were craving for the famous "coquillettes à la truffe". Freak/Weird/Nuts yeah you can use all :)
Alors que le petit déjeuner est servi l'envie des coquillettes à la truffe prend le dessus sur le reste. Dingue ? Oui mais comment résister à cette merveille ? Seb prend la même chose. Je prends du saumon aussi en pensant à notre James GG.

Difficile de résister.
Without a real sleep the night before and with more than 14H to go it was time to shut my eyes. While it's fine it's nowhere near the rooms offered in LX's FCL. I know what you might be thinking if the guy wants to rest he needs an hotel. Fair enough.
La fatigue étant présente et avec encore plus de 14h à venir on se repose un peu. Cela fait du bien MAIS voici ce que LX propose dans son salon First... Ok je sais ce que vous allez dire tu veux bien dormir tu vas a l'hôtel.
Sam has just landed from NCE the journey can really begin?
Sam vient d'arrive de Nice. Le trio est heureux.
The menu is rather limited compared to previous stays.
La carte est bien mais le choix est limité quand je pense à ce j'avais eu avant.
Notre ouaf est bien sage.

On commence light.. miam
While the spa was closed we used the 2E facility with Clarins. Not bad at all. A delight I would say for 30 min a pure bliss.
Alors que les soins sont fermés nous partons à tour de rôle au salon business du 2E pour un soin réparateur.

On passe aux choses sérieuses..
Fantastic.
Le foie gras est divin.
We share more food to keep some room.
On partage le pâté en croûte qui est loin du salon J. Le croque est aussi délicieux.

The filet is just perfect while it's usually served with mashed potatoes I declined it.
Le festival continue avec le filet de bœuf aux poivres. Cuisson parfaite je n'ai pas pris la purée.

Kitchen staff + the waiter. All were great. The last pax to JNB will join us to watch the game.
L'équipe en cuisine et le serveur. They were all nice. Le 4eme pax viendra regarder le match avec nous.

Summary:
It's time for a quick summary:I have had the chance to sample most airlines in First. Yes, AF offers a solid product and there are rooms for improvement to set AF apart.
The lounge is excellent from staff and catering. Other than that, LX lounge is far superior.
Nevertheless I feel blessed to have had the chance to fly AF again. I bought 2 more tickets with the hope to get a real FC catering on board.
I know what you might be thinking.. You want a stellar meal, you go to a real restaurant.
The most important thing is to have had the pleasure sharing this moment with my friends and can't wait to fly with them again.

Bon il est temps de faire un bilan.
J'ai eu la chance d'avoir pu prendre presque l'ensemble des compagnies en F. Oui AF propose un produit solide mais il y a des améliorations à faire pour vraiment sortir du lot.
Le salon est excellent au niveau du personnel et du catering, sinon c'est inférieur à LX par exemple.
Malgré tout, j'ai repris deux billets payants en espérant un catering plus en phase avec ce que l'on attend d'un repas en First.
Là encore je sais ce que vous allez dire. Tu veux un repas d'expectation tu vas au resto. Pourtant, SQ, NH, LX arrivent bien à fournir des excellents repas.
Le plus important est d'avoir pu partager cette expérience avec mes amis. Car c'est bien une expérience qu'on partage.
