Prologue:

Welcome to the continuation of my flight to MIA.

After arriving at EWR the previous night and staying at the Holiday Inn EWR by the airport I was ready to resume my flying. I bought the EWR-MIA as a separate ticket and at the time it was only $34 (EUR 28.70) which was much cheaper than taking a taxi from the airport to the city.

I did not intend to publish a report of this segment but changed my mind once I was at the gate since this was an experience flying in Y. This explains the lack of pics during the check in process.

The UA terminal in EWR has 3 different gate areas at Terminal C and since the UA Club was at a different area from my flight I did not bother to visit it.

Plane at the gate.

I was on a Basic Econ. fare and that meant that the computer chose the seat for me. Thankfully I was assigned a window seat but the flight was close to full.

Upon boarding everyone was handed a sanitizing wipe by the FA.

Summary:

This was my first Y experience during Covid19 and I think that UA did fine. Before my flight I received a text from the airline advising that the flight was going to be full and giving me the option to be confirmed for another flight that might be emptier.

Upon boarding everyone received a sanitizing wipe and we were provided with snacks and a beverage service.

    Hi Casper,

I couldn't believe the price and had to grab it. If you can believe it the price even went down further to $21 at one time before my trip. Unbelievable!

Thanks my friend for this report, yeah go figure, it's cheaper to fly than taking a cab.
Given the fare paid, it's a good flight.
    Nice hotel too.

    Hi Thomas,

My only complaint is that it was crowded but given the price paid as you said it's a good flight. Even better when I arrived at the baggage claim area my luggage was already on the carousel. Not bad at all.

Yes for a Holiday Inn I was really pleased.

    Hello Panda
thank you for publishing this interesting report
    2 questions:
were soft drinks free onboard ?
did you hang out in south beach?
    bye

    Hi Sam,

Yes free drinks and a full can given.

I did not go to South Beach. I grew up in Miami when I was a teenager and went to university there so I had enough of the beach. ;)

    See you later.

    Hi AAFlyer,

I applaud UA for offering a snack bag in addition to beverage service from a cart. Not too shabby.

I would have been luckier if I got an Economy Plus seat. ;)

    Ouaf ! JetSetPanda !

Nice to see a B777 fitted with fids on this route. Is it usual ?
On board, In Europe the new trend for economy class is : no service.. or BoB :( Your little snack bag still exist..Lucky Panda !
In Miami, this Eastern livery reminds me some beautiful memories.

You made my day with this excellent report, JetSet'. I thank you for sharing. See u Soon !

    Oauf.

I'm not sure how usual is this. I think they use mostly narrowbodies but AA is known to run 777's between JFK-MIA.

Most planes feature individual entertainment system these days.

I think airlines operate in cost effective mode now more than ever. ;)

I have fond memories of Eastern in Miami. My first flight with them was MIA-SFO on an A300.

    See you around my friend.
