Prologue:

This is my last leg of the trip returning from MCO and I was excited to fly on a new airline for me - Westjet.

Check in was pretty straightforward and upon arriving at the airport I decided to print my boarding pass. The counters did not look busy but I chose the self serve kiosks since they were relatively empty.

Once at the airport I noticed that in the Priority line DL elites also had access to the line.

The Plaza Premium lounge at the US Transborder gates can get pretty crowded during peak times. I was there during the transition from breakfast to lunch.

Lunch selection was pretty decent. It was certainly better than at US lounges.

Gate was not too crowded and it seems that today's flight was not fully booked. I had an empty seat next to me in row 8 so I can't really complain about this "European J" seating.

Upgrade was available for about CAD 55 or EUR 34. I inquired if there was catering up front and they said that it was only snacks. I passed.

Boarding was quick and orderly. The agents were super friendly and attentive.

Summary:

I was glad to try a new airline and the experience is about the same as the competition.

Crew was efficient if not overly friendly. However they seem pretty strict about changing seats and are very vigilant about pax sitting in extra room seats which cost a little more to reserve.

At the gate I asked about switching to an EMER EXIT row and the agent quoted me a rate. However she suggested to check with the crew aboard and upon asking aboard I was advised by the purser that they can no longer switch pax to EMER EXIT seats without having paid.

Overall WS seems like a reliable carrier to get you from point A to B without much else.
