Prologue:

Even though my flight was not scheduled to depart until 01:00A, I arrived at the airport by noon because one of the people in my party had a flight to Australia leaving in the afternoon and we all decided to go together after checking out of the hotel. This would give me the perfect excuse to do some lounge hopping and get well acquainted with HKG airport. I had the opportunity to visit the QF, KA, and CX (The Bridge & The Pier F) but will mainly elaborate on QF and CX The Pier.

The Pier is considered to be one of the best F lounges in the world. Upon entering you are welcomed into a calm oasis that feels private and exclusive. This is the way that a F lounge should be.

The Retreat - nap rooms. Up to now everything about this lounge was perfect. However when it came to this area this is where I came across some issues. Let's start with the pros - there is about a dozen of these rooms that afford some much needed rest for tired passengers. My room had a view of the tarmac and there are sockets to plug in your electronics. In addition the mattress was firm and comfortable. The cons - I could feel a draft of air directly above me. This was very annoying and also there was a sign advising guests to limit the use of the room to 1.5 hrs. The last thing I want to do when I am resting is to count the minutes and worry about my check out time.

There was a designated entrance for F and J passengers inside the jetbridge and we entered through door 1L. The purser was positioned at the door welcoming passengers and when she saw us she called for 2 other FA's to come up front to assist.

Una vez en mi asiento la jefa de los sobrecargos y la supervisora de la cabina me dieron una bienvenida personal. He leído que CX es consistente con el reconocimiento de las Esmeraldas de Oneworld y mi experiencia lo confirma. Toalla caliente bebidas y amenity kit distribuidos.

La comida de CX es un punto importante de discusión entre sus viajeros frecuentes y sus deficiencias se han discutido ampliamente. Como era de esperar mi servicio fue un poco del lado ligero especialmente en comparación con SQ la cual tiene un vuelo similar. El aperitivo de dips es quizás el aspecto más decepcionante de esta cena. Un amigo comentó que esta oferta puede ser culturalmente inapropiada y tiendo a estar de acuerdo con él especialmente para un operador asiático. Un aperitivo de proteínas sería más apropiado en mi opinión. Tal vez un timbal de camarones o mariscos?

Summary:

A comfortable late night flight with light catering. The cost cutting is obvious given the quality of the supper courses, especially the appetizer and dessert. The snacks available after the meal service are adequate and the beef burger proved to be satisfying.

The seat is the best feature of flying CX in addition to the crew. Studio CX offers a great assortment of programs and there is something for everyone.

    Thanks Adan for the lovely TR. The Pier is a fantastic lounge, I remember spending countless hours on many visits on my way back to China. Impressive to get a rare meat for the burger :)

    To me this is what a proper club should be like - exclusive, quiet, elegant and discreet. CX does lounges very well whether it is F or J. Thanks.

    The lounge is great, even the QF one seems awesome. The flight itself is good even if I'm a little bit disappointed by the catering.

    Both lounges are worth spending time over. I must say that the QF one is more inclined to offer "healthier" food. Catering is not CX strong point but hopefully this will improve. Thanks Casper.

    Nice lounge. The Day-Suites' clock is terrible. There are other ways to relax to wake-up guests^^
    In flight, the main course seems light. But the snackburger, available upon request, looks excellent
    This seat is beautiful. Do they still have advertisement on their FID ?

    The suites were the only part of the experience that was not perfect. Maybe this is done on purpose to shorten the guest's stay in them. :P

    This flight was designated as "supper" which means a lighter version than dinner. But if SQ can serve a full meal at about the same time I don't see why CX can't. The burger was fantastic and a nice surprise. Maybe they expect pax to fill up on the snacks. I'm not sure if they still have ads. It's been a long time since I flew CX.
